5 Small Habits That Can Instantly Boost Your Mood

1.Start your day with gratitude!

Before grabbing your phone, think of three things you are grateful for. They could be as simple as your morning coffee, your pet, or a friend that makes you laugh. Gratitude shifts one’s mindset from “what is missing” to “what is already good.”

2. Fuel your body.

Healthy eating is easy to neglect when you’re stressed or busy. You may feel jittery or

exhausted if you consume too much sugar or caffeine. It is important to consider your body as a vehicle that requires healthy fuel; maintaining proper hydration and eating protein snacks every few hours will help you maintain a consistent level of energy and mood.

3. Stay connected!

Our nature is to be social! Our wellbeing depends on our relationships and social ties. When at all possible, make time on a regular basis to interact in person with friends and family. Despite our feelings of loneliness, there are people who care about you. They could be a friend’s parent, a teacher, a coach or a family member.

4. Move your body.

Frequent exercise has been shown to improve mood by releasing feel-good endorphins. So turn up the music and dance by yourself in your room. Look for a Youtube channel or app that can help you with some gentle stretches. Spend time in nature by going for a walk or riding your bike.

5. Focus on the good.

Everyone has days when it’s particularly difficult to lift their spirits. However, concentrating on

life’s positive aspects, no matter how minor, can help intense feelings. These can include envy, frustration, or resentment. Try writing down three things you are grateful for before bed. Develop this as a nightly routine to enhance your general health and quality of sleep.
